What is a fire extinguishing system?
A fire suppression system is any product designed to stop the spread of fire. It got the name Suppression System because it was designed to stop fires and the damage they could cause. Preventing fires from spreading can mitigate damage and give first responders time to respond. An example of a fire suppression system is a sprinkler system. While sprinkler systems are the most common type of fire suppression system, some applications require special hazard fire suppression systems that do not use water. These systems are unique in that they can treat water hazards that actually do more harm than good. In fire science, fires are divided into categories: A, B, C, D, and K. The fuel of the fire will determine what can be put out. For example, a Class A fire involves wood, and a sprinkler system works just fine. Class C fires, on the other hand, are electrical fires that can get worse if you try to put them out with water. All in all, the specific environment will determine which system works best.
Types of Fire Extinguishing Systems
Engineered and prefabricated fire suppression systems also need to be discussed. An engineered fire suppression system will protect the entire room. For example, use cleaners that are safe for electronics and can be inhaled without causing any harm to people.
Prefabricated systems are used to protect cubicles or microenvironments. Engine bays and electrical panels are good examples of the protection provided by these types of systems. They can also be used to suppress fires in CNC and EDM machines.
