◆Introduction:
At normal temperature, FK-5-1-12 extinguishing gas is colorless, transparent and insulating liquid. it is the novel environmental harmonic and clean extinguishing agent. Noah®5112 is listed in standard documents such as ISO14520-2006 Physical Characteristics of Gas Extinguishing System, the System Design, NFPA2001 Design Specification of Clean Gas Extinguishing System, and the application-design of the product is normatively described.
FK-5-1-12 extinguishing gas is a novel substitution of halon extinguishing agent. It helps engineers and facility managers meet environmental regulations while helping ensure the safety of people, reduce risks and preserve business operations with minimal downtime. It features zero ozone depletion potential (ODP) and a global warming potential (GWP) of less than 1. FK-5-1-12 also has the largest safety margin for use in occupied spaces of all clean agents. It effectively extinguishes fire faster than inert gas or water mist systems, requires less volume of fluid and is safe for use with electronics.
◆Fire Extinguishing Performance
The extinguishing performance of Noah®5112 fluid has been shown in small- and largescale tests. The initial effectiveness has been demonstrated in military applications such as on flightlines and in standard fire scenarios as part of an Underwriters Laboratories and Factory Mutual listing.
Noah®5112 fluid’s environmental profile, toxicity characteristics, and fire performance make it a sustainable technology as a halon replacement alternative to Halons, HFCs and PFCs. An advantage of a liquid agent is that it can be shipped in drums and totes rather than pressurized cylinders. That means that you can air freight Noah®5112 fluid in bulk quantities if needed for refills instead of the very limited quantities of gases that can be air shipped. Additionally, if a leak occurs in the extinguisher or system after superpressurization, the N2 can easily be vented and the agent retained while repairing the cylinder seal or gasket. With gases, the agent would be lost. The liquid is pourable, low in viscosity and easy to handle. It can easily be pumped with hand or electric pumps. Noah®5112 fluid can be used both as a streaming agent (e.g., hand-held extinguishers) or as a total flooding agent in fixed systems.The liquid is compatible with a wide range of materials of construction, and is stable in storage.
◆Thermal Decomposition
Well over 90% of applications involving the use of halocarbons, like Noah®5112 fluid, protect Class A assets, including those related to computer and telecommunication facilities. Continuity of operation is paramount, and those types of assets, typically involving electronic switches and circuit boards, cannot tolerate even a relatively moderate fire. System design, therefore, must be such that fire size be kept to a minimum. Levels of HF produced from fires extinguished by Noah®5112 fluid are similar to those involving other physically acting halocarbon agents. Industry practice over the last decade has demonstrated that fire extinguishing systems using halogenated halon alternatives can be designed to minimize thermal decomposition product formation and avoid adding to the potential toxic threat of a fire event (the hazards created by the combustion products of the fire).
